Not everyone has the same aptitude for music or, for example, drawing. However, the same cannot be said about meditation; here we are all on an equal footing. In meditation, there is no need to strain in order to get a result; on the contrary, in order for something to happen, it is necessary to stop any activity. Meditation happens only when we expect nothing. In meditation, all our bodies: physical, emotional, intellect, and mind cease their activity.
The activities of our bodies (similar to the wind that creates waves on the surface of the water) generate waves on the surface of the Chitta (on the surface of the matter of our consciousness). Only when the waves are completely calm can we see not only the restless surface of the water, but also the bottom of the reservoir. This bottom is like our true nature, because we are not the body, not emotions, not intellect, and not the mind. For true meditation, it is necessary to seriously and deeply relax. It is necessary to let go of everything that we imagine about ourselves, everything that is not us. Meditation begins where activity and effort stop, but this should not be confused with laziness.
The value of meditation lies not only in the deep relaxation that comes from stopping activity and reducing the temperature of life activity, but also in obtaining those treasures that we get from the depths of our true essence – when the waves disappear and we see the bottom, then this is possible.
When meditation happens – understanding comes, wordless knowledge comes, and we begin to know, as if from nowhere, things that we seem to have always known. But for this to happen, we need to allow meditation to enter our lives, we need to allow something to happen.
Meditation can also have practical applications in everyday life, since we all need and want good advice or guidance in our lives. This is why people often turn to astrologers, psychics, become members of various religious communities, and run after those who can solve their problems. There is no duality in meditation, so the best advice comes only from within, it is only ours and only we ourselves can solve our current problems. In meditation we get ourselves, and this is our Guru. Our Guru comes from within. And for this, we need to allow meditation to happen.
